Poster Contest Call for Entries - Albuquerque Film & Music Experience 

 

Designers and other visual artists are invited to submit a design for a 2023 Albuquerque Film and Music Experience (AFMX) poster! The winning poster will be used to publicize the 11th Annual AFMX spotlight film and music festival. The first-place design will be displayed at the AFMX office, in the community, on the AFMX website, AFMX social, and other digital media (e.g., emails), and in print. 

 

The contest starts February 15, 2023; Submissions close at 11:59 p.m. on April 30, 2023.

REQUIRED ELEMENTS

  • The Contest Entry Form must be submitted along with the design

FILE SPECIFICATIONS:

  • Poster dimension:  11x17

  • The design file submitted must be no more than 10GB in .jpeg, .png, formats.

  • AFMX may request a larger file from the designer at a later date if needed for the best quality print.

  • Each element used must be free of copyright infringement.

  • Hand-made posters must be scanned and submitted electronically.

  • No Artificial Intelligence images allowed.

DEADLINE AND AWARDS:
Submissions close at 11:59 p.m. on April 30, 2023.


First place and two runners-up will be notified and announced by May 8, 2023.

First place receives $250 in cash and two free full access passes (valued at $125 each pass) to AFMX (September 27-October 1, 2023. 

Two runners-up will receive one full-access festival pass each to AFMX 2023 free full access passes (valued at $125 each) to AFMX’s spotlight festival September 27-October 1, 2023. 

JUDGING:

Distinguished judges from the visual arts and the AFMX Foundation will judge all entries through blind voting, a voting guide, and a scoring sheet to ensure equity.

HOW DESIGNS ARE JUDGED: 

  • Creative excellence: interesting use of materials, color, and/or design that adds to the impact of the poster.

  • Overall Quality / Neatness: The poster is free of smudges, is assembled with care, and the writing is neat.

  • Concept: Where a unique concept or idea being communicated.

  • Clarity / Readability

  • Use of Color: Pleasing color combinations, color use enhanced readability and attractiveness.

  • Composition/Layout/Design: Space is used effectively. The graphics and writing are not crowded, and the layout is easy to follow.

  • Title: Easy to read, captured the idea/topic of the poster.

  • Copy/Type: Wording is limited, accurate, clear, concise, easy to follow, and easy to read from two feet away.

  • Spelling, Usage, Grammar, and Mechanics: Free of spelling mistakes, grammatical, and punctuation errors.

  • Graphics/Pictures/Illustrations: Enhanced poster’s impact or message helps viewer understand the content.

  • Attention to Detail: Point deduction for not specifying required information or challenging to read.

  • Overall Impression: The poster attracts attention, maintains interest, and conveys a message.

NAME/BRAND STANDARDS:

Albuquerque Film and Music Experience (AFMX)
AFME Foundation (the non-profit 501(c)(3) that presents the Albuquerque Film and Music Experience

 

  • It is okay to substitute “+” for and when needed for space

  • Do not substitute “&;” instead use “+”

  • “The” is not part of the name before “Albuquerque Film and Music Experience” and should always be lowercase. 

 

THE PESKY FINE PRINT:
By submitting an entry, the artist consents that it is his/her/their original work and that he/she/they have all necessary rights and permissions to use any included elements.  The winning artist grants Albuquerque Film and Music Experience (AFMX) the right to use the 11x17 poster design for its 2023 festival. 

It is expected that all poster entries will follow current copyright law. Entries that break or infringe on copyright law will not be considered for judging. 

The artist shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless AFMX from and against any and all suits, actions, claims, damages, liabilities, judgments, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of any violation of third-party rights (including, without limitation, intellectual property infringement, misappropriation, dilution or violation) in connection with AFMX’s use, distribution, publishing, sale or exploitation of the design. No submissions will be returned.
