HISTORY

We are proud of AFMX’s evolution over the years. From An Evening with Robert Redford, Jeff Bridges, and T Bone Burnett to the Buddy Rich Alumni, Prince, and Nathan East Tribute Concerts, we look forward to our collective growth, exciting programming, and opportunities to make new friends and flourish into the future. In 2020 and 2021, we were presented with the global challenge as we made our way through the pandemic. With the support of a global community, we were able to present two years of virtual programs. In 2022, we celebrated our 10th anniversary with a hybrid event and we look forward to 2023 with more music, panels, special guests and education.

Overview

The Albuquerque Film & Music Experience (AFMX) is an annual interactive film & music festival held in Albuquerque, New Mexico each September. Beginning in 2013 with the participation of Robert Redford, Sibylle Szaggars-Redford, and many other special guests, AFMX has featured domestic and international movies, engaging industry panels and workshops, intimate networking events and parties, live music, and more.

Education is a key component of AFMX’s activities and events. Year-round, AFMX helps young people explore the film and music industries, participate in the various aspects of production, and provide educational opportunities for those who may wish to pursue professional careers in film, music and related endeavors.

Positive Economic Development is a primary objective of AFMX at our annual festival, as well as other programs and events during the year. Albuquerque has emerged as one of the top film and TV production locations in the nation, with an industry that is leading the city’s economic growth. Whereas the physical beauty and constant sunshine of New Mexico have attracted film producers for decades, lower-costs, and generous incentives have enhanced the city and state’s attractiveness to the film industry. Netflix’s recent announcement to invest over one billion dollars, and locate its next production hub in Albuquerque is a testament to the significance of the industry in our City. AFMX, through its educational programs, supports professional development and the growth of the industry. In addition, AFMX is on course to become a significant, annual visitor attraction, while drawing attention to our robust film industry.

Differentiation

There are many film festivals around the world. One can only assume that supply is commensurate with demand, as movie, television and other media productions are at an all-time high in popularity. That said, the AFMX festival is different.

We know of no other major film festivals that give equal weight to music + film. Our core philosophy lies in emphasizing the interrelationship between film and music, and recognizing talent and artistry in both. Our name says it all!

Albuquerque Film & Music Experience commits to the belief of the symbiotic relationship between film and music. Moving forward, AFMX will be a celebration and recognition of the interdependence and equality of artistry in music and film.

Support and Sponsorship

We expect this year's experience to be unlike any other, and attract fans and aficionados from all directions.

We invite local and national companies, and film and music lovers to support our unique experience by becoming a financial sponsor of AFMX and the AFME Foundation - a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
